India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has often dealt with criticism from several cricketers and cricket fans. However, the batsman stated that it doesn’t affect him a bit, and his only aim is to perform the best for the country. Ahead of the WTC final clash against New Zealand, Ajinkya Rahane stated that he doesn’t like to think about criticisms as it is not in his hands. In fact, the 33-year-old said that it is because of judgments that he has reached so far.
The Mumbaikar feels that even if he scores 40 and it proves to be useful for his team, then he is more than happy. Back in 2019, the Indian vice-captain had played for Hampshire county. Thus, he has a better idea about the ground where he has also played two Tests in 2014 and 2018.
Rahane is India’s top scorer in the 2-year World Test Championship cycle
In the World Test Championship, Ajinkya Rahane has so far scored 1095 runs in 17 games. He is the team India’s top scorer in the two-year World Test Championship cycle leading to the final against the Kiwis. The Indian Test vice-captain is one of the only two Indian players to have breached the 1000-run mark in the tournament. Rahane will once again be a crucial member of the Indian set-up when India locks horns with New Zealand in the summit clash on June 18 in Southampton. Despite having not made the WTC finals, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne is the leading run-scorer in the league stages of the WTC. He has scored 1675 runs.
The right-handed batsman made his Test debut in March 2013, Border–Gavaskar Trophy. The Mumbaikar scored his first Test century against New Zealand. Rahane has played 73 Test matches overall for the Indian cricket team. He has aggregated 4,583 runs at an average of 42.45. The batsman has also smashed 12 centuries and 23 fifties to date.
The maiden World Test Championship will be decided from Friday between India and New Zealand in Southampton. India and New Zealand have so far played 59 Tests against one another. India has managed to win 21 whereas New Zealand has won 12 and 26 matches ending without a result. Kane Williamson’s team defeated the Indians 2-0 in the most recent two-match series at home in February 2020.
