Indian captain Mithali Raj had to face criticism for her low strike rate after India lost the first ODI against England. However, she hit back at her detractors, saying that she doesn’t seek validation from people after playing for so long. Mithali Raj recently became the highest run-getter in women’s cricket across formats. She also helped India to a four-wicket win over England in the third and final ODI.

Mithali Raj overtook former England batter Charlotte Edwards’ record for most runs. She went past Edwards's 10,273 runs with a boundary off Natalie Sciver. Currently, the third position in the elite list is occupied by New Zealand's Suzie Bates. She has amassed 7849 runs in 247 matches. Bates is then followed by West Indies' Stefanie Taylor, with 7834 runs in 256 games. BCCI took to Twitter and congratulated Mithali Raj for her achievement when she went past 10,273.

Raj’s tally of 2924 runs is the most by any woman player against a particular team in ODIs

As captain, Mithali Raj has accumulated 6015 runs in 179 games. She is next only to Charlotte Edwards again, who has 6728 runs. The half-century against England on Sunday was the 87th instance that she had scored 50+ runs. Her tally of 2924 runs is the most by any woman player against a particular team in ODIs.

After the conclusion of the ODI series, the focus now shifts to T20Is. In the shortest format of the game, the visitors would feel a little more confident considering their performance in the World Cup last year in Australia. However, the team is going to miss the services of the experienced Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. The first match of the game's shortest format would be played on July 9 at the Northampton County Ground. The second game would be played a couple of days later at Hova. The last and final match is going to take place at Chelmsford after a three-day gap.

India’s T20 Squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain) Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana, Taniya Bhatia (wicket-keeper), Indrani Roy (wicket-keeper), Shikha Pandey, Pooja Vastrakar, Arundhati Reddy, Poonam Yadav, Ekta Bisht, Radha Yadav, Simran Dil Bahadur.
