Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has shown glimpses of his old form as he scored his second consecutive hundred in ODIs during the first ODI against Sri Lanka. The former Indian captain scored 113 off 87 balls with the help of 12 fours and one six. The hundred came just weeks after his 44th ODI hundred which came after a gap of three years and four months. Reacting to Kohli’s remarkable return to former Indian selector Saba Karim said that Kohli will soon surpass Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries.

With a total of 45 centuries to his name in the 50-over format, Kohli is just four short of equalling legendary Sachin Tendulkar's world record of hitting the highest number of tons in ODIs.

In an interaction on India News Sports after the first ODI against Sri Lanka, former India cricketer Saba Karim shared his thoughts on the criticism around Kohli and the accusation that he plays for records. Karim also made the prediction that Kohli would soon break Tendulkar's record of scoring the most ODI centuries.

"Sachin Tendulkar would be the happiest if Virat Kohli broke his record of scoring the most ODI centuries. With the kind of form that he is in, I think he is going to break that record very soon," said Karim.

"I don't think Kohli is playing for records at the moment. He aims to win the World Cup for Team India and is completely focused on that," he added.

Kohli equalled Tendulkar's record of most hundreds in India

With his hundred on Tuesday, Kohli equalled Tendulkar’s record of hitting 20 ODI centuries in India reaching the landmark in 61 fewer innings. He also equalled Tendulkar’s record of most hundreds against a single nation as he brought up his 9th hundred against Sri Lanka in ODIs. Tendulkar also has 9 hundreds against Australia. Other than Sri Lanka, Kohli also has nine hundreds against West Indies.

With the ODI World Cup 2023 set to take place in India and Kohli’s hundred in the first ODI of the year comes as a great sign of team India. The star batter will have a huge role to play in the hosts' chances of winning the coveted trophy for the third time, having emerged victorious in 1983 and 2011.
