The veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is currently leading the Dindigul Dragons in the ongoing 2023 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). The Dragons couldn’t make it to the playoffs of the tournament in last year’s edition and ended up in the sixth position having only two wins in the seven matches, they played in the tournament so far.

Ashwin and his guys have started this edition of the TNPL 2023 with a very good performance after defeating Ba11sy Trichy in their first match of the campaign in the tournament.

But an incident from the 13th ball of the over, Ashwin appealed for a catch which was given out by the umpire and it eventually dismissed Trichy’s batter R Rajkumar who reviewed the decision. Later the third umpire reversed the on-field umpire’s call and gave it ‘not-out’.

But apart from everyone’s expectations, Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t look satisfied with this decision and immediately asked for counter-DRS for another review upstairs. This moment made the TNPL globally popular and gave it an acknowledgment on the world map.

Meanwhile, the former Indian opener and currently the commentator, Aakash Chopra came up with a very different statement on this step taken by Ravichandran Ashwin in the TNPL match.

"Ashwin Anna's small matter has brought TNPL to the world map. He was bowling very well, had picked up a wicket, and there was an appeal for another wicket where the umpire gave it out," said Chopra in a video on his YouTube Channel.

"Ashwin and everyone were happy but the batter asked for a review. The third umpire was very good. He followed the protocol, checked all angles, and figured out that the ball had not reached the bat when the spike came because the bat hitting the ground. Well done, he umpired very well and said it was not out," he added later.

Apart from this, Aakash Chopra also felt that it was something that would make the TNPL officials give it a think once again. Once they’ll look back at it, they’ll figure out that it was something that shouldn’t have been allowed.

“Ashwin said he wanted to review it again. He reviewed a review and it happened as well. It is beyond my understanding. I feel when the TNPL officials look back, they will say that this option was not available," said Chopra.
