'I had no understanding of what it was like'- Rohit Sharma Reflects On His First Experience At World Cup Back In 2007

The first edition of the 20-20 World Cup back in 2007 was a revolution in the sport. The game has come a long way since its inception in terms of understanding the format and how players approach it. Few people have experienced the best of both worlds. India captain Rohit Sharma is one of four players who competed in the first World Cup 15 years ago.

Rohit is all set to lead his team in the 2022 edition of the 20-20 World Cup. Before the tournament began, he reflected on being a member of the victorious Indian team in 2007 and how T20 has evolved over the years.

On Friday, he discussed his first 20-20 World Cup experience. He admitted that he knew little about the format and had no idea what it was like to be a member of a World Cup squad until India won the trophy.

"When I was picked for that World Cup I did not go with any expectations about myself. I just wanted to enjoy the tournament and play the tournament as it was my first ever World Cup. I had no understanding of what it was like to be part of a World Cup and how big it was going to be until we actually won the World Cup," Rohit said at an event in Melbourne.

The 35-year-old, who was one of four players who competed in the first World Cup and is now competing in the latest edition, claims that the format has evolved significantly. Dinesh Karthik is another Indian among these four players. Rohit went on to say that the players' approach has shifted dramatically.

"It has been a long journey and the game has evolved so much. You can literally see how it is played now compared to what it was like in 2007. 140 or 150 was a good score back then and now people try and get that score in 14 or 15 overs," he added.
