India chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, who generally leaves his opponents dumbfounded, was recently on the receiving end of one such act. Answering fans' questions at an event, Anand was left confused as two eight-year-olds came up with a mysterious question.
The video of the query in question has been retweeted by the man himself. In the video, two 8-year-old twin sisters could be seen discussing a question. One of them then stands up with a mic in her hand and says, “How to distract the pieces?” to which the grandmaster replies, “Well, I do it, eh, facing straight”, assuming the question was about ‘setting pieces’. The kid stops Anand right away with a stern ‘no’ and repeats her question again.
“How to distract the pieces”, she repeats. Mr Anand at this point cannot think of any logical answer to the question and concedes with, “I have no idea”.
The question of the day! https://t.co/bYWrcTtMyA

The crowd erupts in a burst of laughter and Anand continues, “I try my best but they never get distracted. I’m sorry, you can distract the opponent I don’t know how to distract the pieces.”
The tweet has been seen and retweeted thousands of times at this point with everyone coming up with their own understanding of the question. None however have been able to crack it.
Let’s look at some Twitter reactions to this mysterious question by two 8-year-olds.
Vishy you should understand their question in person, maybe they would have developed some new techniques which no one has ever imagined in the game.

"How to distract the pieces?"😂
Only a boundlessly creative mind which is consumed by the game could think along those lines!

I'm assuming that she got so offended by the vague response that she'd probably work her way up to Vishy and beat the living chess out of him. XD

Will be an enthusiastic member: Viswanathan Anand
Anand has decided not to participate in the Chennai Chess Olympiad this time around. When asked about his decision he said, "No, I did not (consider playing). I was not going to play anyway wherever it was happening. Recently I have been reducing my commitments," replied Anand when asked if he reconsidered playing in the prestigious event after it was moved to Chennai from Russia.
"The world Championship cycle, I am not trying to qualify. In fact, I did not think of changing my mind. India has so many great youngsters now. Then why should we keep coming back? I hope that they will do very well.
"I will try to be around if they want to consult me. Anyway, I am in constant touch with some of the team members. It will be an extension of that. Yeah, I will be an enthusiastic member."
