India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has lauded Virat Kohli’s aggressive and high energy levels on and off the field. His comments have come on Kohli’s 33rd birthday. Apart from breaking records for fun in the batting department, the 33-year-old has also gone on to become one of the most successful Test captains for India.

Kohli has a staggering 37 wins in 63 matches, and Ashwin has been part of several of those victories. The off-spinner feels it is his infectious energy and ruthless attitude that he is very jealous of. “With respect to having dealt with him as a leader in the red-ball format, All I can say is he plays with his heart on his sleeve. Sometimes, when I watch Virat lead the side, I feel like how does he manage to bring so much energy. I really envy Virat’s energy level on the field and off it,” Ashwin said in a video posted by Star Sports.

Ashwin further opined Kohli’s passionate and fearless attitude has rubbed off on the teammates as well which, in turn, has worked well for team India. “I think that the energy he infuses on the field really absorbs on people. One thing is you can stand up tall, and I can say at the top of my voice is the kind of culture he has brought in the team.”

Virat Kohli has been in the leadership role since 2014 in Test cricket and from 2017 in the white-ball formats. The 33-year-old has thrived more in the red-ball format because of the way he always goes for a win at all cost.

In the ODIs and T20Is too he is not far behind, as Kohli has won games by going with five specialist bowlers. The 33-year-old always pumps up the players and is the one who always backs his teammates, by allowing them to express freely.
