Manchester United was trounced 4-0 by Brentford on Saturday, putting the Red Devils to the bottom of the Premier League table following two straight defeats. Brentford, who was just promoted to the Premier League after a 74-year absence in August 2021, scored four goals in the first 35 minutes, creating joyous celebrations at their west London ground.
David De Gea accepted responsibility after Manchester United were humiliated 4-0 by Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday. The Spanish goalkeeper was to blame for the Bees' opening two goals, which came within 18 minutes of kickoff at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Manchester United goalkeeper asked to be interviewed by Sky Sports after the game to accept full responsibility for the defeat. "I think I cost my team three points today. It was a poor performance from myself. After the first mistake and then the second, it was very tough to be playing and it was a horrible day. Of course, we should react better but the moment we are living now is tough, every time we concede a goal," he said.

De Gea let Josh Dasilva's feeble effort get past his body at his near post, to get the scoreboard going. He then played Christian Eriksen into danger from a goal kick a few minutes later, with Mathias Jensen grabbing the ball away from the Danish midfielder before slotting the ball home.
De Gea on overcoming the difficult situation
The Red Devils sit bottom of the standings after losing their first two games of the 2022-23 season. A major battle against archrivals Liverpool is coming up next at Old Trafford on August 22. When asked how the squad can get out of their current dilemma, De Gea did not have a solution, but he did say that everyone must remain united through these difficult times.
"I'm not sure, to be honest. Everyone is improving a lot and feels like we're on the same page. We must stick together," he said.
