Michael Hussey feels that Shaw needs the backing of the team during the on-going difficult moment. After the first Test, there have been several calls from all around to drop Shaw for the second Test match. The young opener failed to perform in both the innings of the Adelaide Test. He had to also face the anger of the fans after dropping a catch of Marnus Labuschagne in Australia’s first innings.

The visitors also suffered a demeaning eight-wicket defeat in the first pink-ball match at the hands of the hosts. Experts questioned Shaw’s place in the team even before the start of the match because of his poor performances in the warm-up game. Gill was expected to open the innings along with Mayank Agarwal. However, the team management decided to go with Shaw and the batsman failed to justify.

The 21-year-old failed to open his account in the first innings and in the second game he managed to score just four runs. More than the runs he scored; it was the way of his dismissal that has invited criticism for him. Sunil Gavaskar also questioned his technique while saying that the management should replace Shaw with KL Rahul.

Michael Hussey supports Prithvi Shaw

Despite all the criticism faced by Shaw, he has received some much-needed support from Australian batsman Michael Hussey. The former batsman has dropped his support behind the youngster and said that the team-management should continue with Shaw for the Boxing Day Test.

He also advised that India should take a tough call on Shaw based on just one test match. Hussey also gave the example of Australia opener Joe Burns who played the Adelaide Test despite being out of form. Joe justified his selection with an unbeaten half-century in the second innings.

The 45-year-old also opined that Shaw needs the backing of the team during this challenging moment. The former batsman also stated that the pitch at the MCG would suit the youngster more. He further added that the Indian opener had got enormous talent.

Hussey, who scored more than 12,000 runs across all formats during his international career also feels that choosing Shaw the India selectors will give a positive message to other players as well. Prithvi Shaw has played five test matches to date scoring 339 runs at an average of 42.4.
