Former New Zealand pacer and currently one of the renowned commentators, Simon Doull has come up with quite a harsh analysis while talking about Team India and their chances in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, in their backyard. Doull came up quite hard while saying that India’s focus is mostly on the ‘stats-driven cricket’.

He also questioned the risk-taking ability of the Indian players; he also stressed the fact over concern about Indian batting and their worry about the stats. Doull’s statement has come just a few weeks ahead of the commencement of the ODI World Cup 2023.

“Fearless cricket is their issue; they don’t play fearless cricket enough. They play statistics-driven cricket and they are too worried about their stats too often. And to me, that is the one area I am concerned about their batting side,” said Simon Doull to Sky Sports.

“They have got all the talent and some of the best players if not the best players in the world. But it is about playing the fearless cricket at the right time of the tournament and I think that is what had really let them down in the last few World Cups,” he added later.

Furthermore, Doull also spoke about the risk-taking factor and the inability of Indians to push the risk button in pressure situations during the big matches of the big tournaments.

“They don’t go out there and take risks because they are so worried about what might be said or what might be printed or what might someone ask them about their place in the team. That’s the one area I am concerned with,” he said.

Talking about Team India, they are currently in action during the ongoing Asia Cup 2023; Rohit Sharma’s men have reached the final of the tournament after some good outings in the just concluded super-4 round of the tournament, having two wins and a loss in the three matches.
