Former legendary Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has come up with a very hard-and-fast-lined analysis of the Indian bowling attack. Subsequently, he also talked about the raging turner wickets provided so far in the three Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. Notably, the surface of the Holkar Stadium where both the teams played the third Test was rated ‘poor’ by the cricket’s governing body.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar also discussed the loopholes and lacks in the current bowling setup of the hosts while playing in the full-fledged four-match Test series against Australia.

"Taking 20 wickets is not going to be easy in India. On a lot of Indian pitches, without your ace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami and a slightly inexperienced Mohammed Siraj, I don't think that bowling attack is such (strong). But with a little bit of help from a dry pitch, India can probably take 20 wickets. I think that is the thinking behind preparing such pitches,"  said Gavaskar to India Today.

If you would have had a strong attack, maybe you could have done something - Sunil Gavaskar

"For India to reach the World Test Championship Final, they did not have any other options (than producing turning tracks). If you would have had a strong attack, maybe you could have done something different but your strength is your spinners and therefore I think these pitches are being made. You do not want a flat pitch where the batters go out and dominate. These pitches are testing the temperament of the batters," he added later.

Notably, India’s lead of 2-0 has now come to 2-1 following a crushing defeat in the Indore Test against Australia by a massive margin of nine wickets. Earlier, in the Nagpur and Delhi Tests, Rohit Sharma’s men registered the wins by the margins of an inning and 132 runs and a six-wicket win respectively.

Now, both teams will lock horns in the fourth and last of the four-match Test series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from Thursday, the 9th of March. Following this, the men in blue will take on the Aussies in the three-match ODI series.
