Former Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Dale Steyn believes that this will be the last season David Warner wore the SRH jersey. The Hyderabad-based franchise has appointed Kane Williamson as their new skipper for the season's remaining games. David Warner led the orange army in the first six games. However, the side has had a disappointing start to the tournament. They lost five games out of their first six IPL encounters. David Warner has now been replaced by Kane Williamson, who led SRH during the 2018-19 seasons. Under Kane Williamson, the team ended as runners-up in the 2018 edition. SRH also qualified for the playoffs in the next season.
There is definitely something happening behind closed doors which were not visible to the public: Dale Steyn
In yet another shocking move, ahead of the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, the SRH team management decided to remove Warner from the playing XI. Reacting to how SRH management has treated David Warner, legendary South African seamer Dale Steyn opined that it was possible for the last time this season that the fanatics will see David Warner wear an SRH shirt. Steyn also reckoned that there was something fishy in the entire incident, and there is definitely something happening behind closed doors which were not visible to the public.
David Warner has been one of the most prolific run-scorers in the history of IPL. He has scored more than 500 runs from 2014 to 2020. Under his leadership, SRH also won their maiden IPL title in 2016. In that match, they defeated Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the summit clash. The Australian opening batsman was named as SRH captain for the first time in 2015. He continued to hold the top responsibility till the 2017 season before his one-year suspension.
Warner was suspended due to the ball-tampering scandal, and then Williamson was handed over the captaincy reins in 2018. While David Warner guided SRH to a Qualifier 2 finish in IPL 2020, the side is seen struggling in the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League. Thus, the SRH team management made a difficult decision of sacking David Warner on Saturday. The officials also shared a statement via their official Twitter handle. Having secured just one win from six outings so far this season, SRH is presently at the bottom of the points table. The Hyderabad-based franchise will play at least eight more games on the leagues' stage.
