Team India locked horns with the Bangla Tigers on 22 December 2022 in the second and last Test match of the ongoing series. They were coming off to this clash after winning the series opener by a huge margin of 188 runs. Kuldeep Yadav won the player of the match award for his all-around performance with both the bat and ball.

He scored 40 runs in the first innings and eight wickets in two innings of the first match. But, KL Rahul surprised everyone during the toss of the second match. He said that Kuldeep Yadav got dropped as Jaydev Unadkat made a cut to the playing XI. Hearing that, fans were not happy and the former India cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar also slammed the Men in Blue for dropping the star spinner.

“You drop a player who picked eight out of 20 wickets in the last game and has two other spinners.” - Sunil Gavaskar regarding Kuldeep Yadav

While speaking to Sony Sports Network, Sunil Gavaskar said: "To drop a Man of the Match is absolutely unbelievable...and unbelievable is a very gentle word. I want to use more harsh words. You drop a player who picked eight out of 20 wickets in the last game and has two other spinners. One of those two should have been dropped and he should have played no matter what."

Kuldeep Yadav made a great comeback to the team after a long gap of 22 months. He scored 40 runs in the first innings. With the ball, he took five wickets in the first innings and three wickets in the second innings. At the toss, KL Rahul said: “We made one change – Kuldeep Yadav misses out and Jaydev Unadkat comes in. Unfortunate decision for us to leave him (Kuldeep) out but it’s an opportunity for Unadkat."

Speaking about Jaydev Unadkat, he made a comeback into the longest format of the game for team India after a long gap of 12 years. Unadkat played last for the Men in Blue in the Test format at Centurion on 16 December 2022 against South Africa. It was his debut match also.
