Young opener Devdutt Padikkal praised senior batsman Shikhar Dhawan and stated that he was inspired by how fearless Dhawan was on his debut. Eight years ago, Shikhar Dhawan smashed a hundred on debut for India. He scored 187 runs against Australia in Mohali. The southpaw brought up his century off just 85 deliveries. This made him the player to score the fastest hundred on debut. Before the commencement of the Sri Lanka series, Devdutt Padikkal spoke about how he is keen to learn from Shikhar Dhawan.

There is a lot I can learn from Shikhar Dhawan: Devdutt Padikkal

Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal is one of the five newcomers to the Indian team. Other new players in the squad are Chetan Sakariya, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana, and Krishnappa Gowtham. After performing brilliantly in the domestic circuit and later in the IPL, Devdutt Padikkal was rewarded with a maiden India call-up.

Last year in the IPL, Padikkal scored 473 runs from 15 matches. The RCB batsman became the second player in the history of IPL to score over 400 runs in a debut season. Earlier this year, in IPL 2021, Devdutt Padikkal managed to score 195 runs from six matches. This also included a century. With the Sri Lanka series being India's last T20 assignment before the T20 World Cup, there is much at stake. However, Devdutt Padikkal is not thinking too far ahead and is just focusing on the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. A young bunch of Indian cricketers is set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Sri Lanka. The series is scheduled to start on the 13th of July.
