World number one all-rounder Jason Holder finally broke the silence on being snubbed from the captaincy role. The 29-year-old stated that it's been a strange transition for him after being relieved of captaincy's duties of the Test team earlier this year. Recently, Jason Holder had opted out of the Bangladesh series due to the COVID-19 situation. Due to his withdrawal, the captaincy reins were passed on to Kraigg Brathwaite. Several other top players, including Holder, were not present for the series due to Covid-19 restrictions. Kraigg Brathwaite led West Indies to a 2-0 victory in Bangladesh. As a result, when it was time to pick the team for the home series against Sri Lanka in March, the management kept their faith in Kraigg Brathwaite.

Jason Holder has led West Indies in 37 matches

Jason Holder was first appointed as West Indies Test captain in October 2015. At 23 years, 72 days, Holder became the youngest West Indian captain. He also became the second-youngest test skipper of all time for the West Indies and the 15th youngest for any Test Country. Holder has led the senior national team in 37 matches, wherein they have managed to win 11 games and lost 21. Jason Holder was an influential figure as a skipper as he evolved into one of the world's best all-rounders. The captaincy duties did not impact Jason Holder's performances, although he took over the top job early. After playing 47 matches in the most extended format of the game, Holder has 123 wickets. He is presently the No. 1 spot in the ICC rankings for Test all-rounders.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection panel announced the West Indies men's 13-men squad for the first Test against South Africa. Both sides have newly appointed Test skippers. The Windies will be led by Kraig Brathwaite, whereas South Africa will be led by Dean Elgar, who took over the captaincy from Quinton De Kock earlier this year in March. The entire WI team is presently based in St Lucia. They have also begun their training while being in a bio-secure environment. The venue for the two-Test match series between South Africa and West Indies has been finalized. The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium will host the two games. On the other end, the National Cricket Stadium is the venue for the five T20I matches.
