Virat Kohli announced his decision to step down from the position of Test captain after losing the Test series against South Africa 2-1. In September last year, Kohli decided to leave the T20I captaincy and the selectors removed him from the ODI captaincy position in December. His decision of vacating the Test captaincy duty came as a shocker for both his fans and the cricketing fraternity.

Kohli finished his captaincy career as the greatest captain of the Indian Test side. He captained the team in the most number of matches and also won more matches than any Indian captain. Kohli will be featuring in the first ODI against South Africa as a player for the first time in the last five years.

Kohli is going through a rough patch in all the formats of the game. He has played 254 ODIs for India and has scored 12169 runs at an average of 59.07 and a strike rate of 93.17. Kohli has scored 43 centuries and 62 half-centuries in his ODI career. But, his last century came in against Bangladesh in Day-Night. It's strange to see Kohli not being able to concert his starts into 100, something he was very good at.

Just before the start of the ODI series, the netizens started predicting that Kohli will reach the magical number in the first ODI. A few twitter users even Tweeted about sending money to everyone if Kohli is able to score his 71st century. They are expecting him to score a century because of his impressive record in South Africa. Kohli has made 877 runs in 18 matches at an average of 87.70 and a strike rate of 90.22 in the rainbow nation. He has made three centuries and four half-centuries.

Here’s how Twitterati predicted about the 71st century of Virat Kohli:
