Rohit Sharma is the most successful player with 6 IPL titles
Rohit Sharma is the most successful player in the history of the Indian Premier League. He has won the title for a record six times. Rohit Sharma has led his home team Mumbai Indians (MI), to the trophy five times out of the six occasions. Under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians have won the IPL in the year 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. They have also won the former Champions League Twenty20 tournament back in 2013. On the other hand, he had also won the tournament for the first time in 2009 while representing the Adam Gilchrist-led Deccan Chargers (DC).
In 2013, Rohit Sharma was handed over the captaincy reins when Ricky Ponting had stepped down from the role. Since then, there has been no looking back for both Rohit Sharma and the Mumbai Indians franchise. Apart from Rohit Sharma, the other successful IPL captains are MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir. MS Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to the title on three occasions, whereas Gambhir changed Kolkata Knight Rider’s fortunes with two IPL titles in the 2012 and 2014 seasons, respectively. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is also one of the best captains in the tournament, but he is yet to take Royal Challengers Bangalore to the title despite leading the side since 2013.
As of March 2021, Rohit has 5230 runs with an average of 31.31. This also includes a century, 39 fifties, and 15 scalps to his name. In 2018, Rohit Sharma became the second Indian batsman to accumulate 2000 T20I runs and also became the first player to hit four T20I centuries. The year 2018 turned out to be a fruitful year for him in the Blue outfit as he even successfully led the country in the Asia Cup and the Nidahas Trophy.
