Young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw proclaimed that if given a chance, he would like to speak about batting with Virender Sehwag. Shaw stated this because they have a similar habit of looking to score from the very first delivery. Prithvi Shaw’s slammed his fellow Under-19 World Cup-winning teammate Shivam Mavi for six consecutive boundaries in the opening over. Chasing 155 against KKR, the 21-year-old played one of the best innings. He scored 82 runs off 41 balls and helped DC to a seven-wicket victory.
Shaw became the second cricketer in IPL history to hit six consecutive boundaries. India's Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane had previously smashed 6 boundaries against Royal Challengers Bangalore back in 2012. Prithvi Shaw also became the first cricketer to smash 24 runs in the first over of an IPL match. Talking about Shaw's batting performance, the DC opener also notched up his half-century in just 18 deliveries. Thus, Prithvi Shaw now holds the record of hitting the fastest 50 in the 14th season of the Indian Premier League.
I knew what sort of deliveries Mavi would be targeted with: Prithvi Shaw
When asked if he had prepared himself for such a brilliant start, Shaw responded that having played with Mavi for years, he knew what sort of deliveries he would be targeted with. The two-time IPL winners were restricted to 154/6 from their allotted 20 overs after crucial knocks from Shubman Gill (43) and Andre Russell (45*). The duo resurrected KKR's innings as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. In response, the Delhi Capitals meant business right from the beginning. Shaw and Dhawan stitched a crucial 132-run partnership to put DC in the driving seat against KKR at the world's largest cricket stadium. Riding on Shaw's quick-fire 81 off just 41 deliveries, Delhi thrashed Kolkata by 7 wickets to take the 2nd position in the IPL 2021 standings.
After the dismissal of Shaw and Dhawan, Marcus Stoinis helped the team get past the finish line with 21 deliveries to spare. Delhi Capitals registered their fifth win of this season. Prithvi Shaw has also adjudged the Man of the Match for his excellent knock of 41-ball 82. His knock included 11 boundaries and three maximums at a strike rate of 200.
