The young batsman from Punjab has been receiving praise from all over the world for his outstanding performance with the bat. Legendary West Indies pacer Ian Bishop heaped praise for Shubman Gill and also highlighted a flaw in his batting technique. The former also compared the opening batsman to Virender Sehwag's early days. Virender Sehwag holds numerous records which includes the highest score made by an Indian batsman in Test cricket. He was also the fastest player to score a triple century in the history of international cricket.

The 21-year-old also became the youngest Indian opening batsman to score 50-plus runs in the fourth innings of a Test match. However, he failed to get to his maiden Test hundred as he was dismissed for 91 by Nathan Lyon. Gill faced 146 balls in his fantastic knock of 91 runs.
