Suryakumar Yadav started the 2023 year with an excellent knock in the recently concluded T20I series at home against Sri Lanka. In the last match of that series, Surya scored 112* runs off 51 balls, including seven fours and nine sixes. It was his third T20I ton in just 43 innings for the Men in Blue.
However, after that innings, former cricketers from different countries have started to consider him even better than the former Protea great, AB de Villiers. However, the former Pakistan skipper, Salman Butt has come up with a huge dig at PCB while praising the India batter on his official YouTube channel.
“I just thought he’s lucky that he is Indian.” - Salman Butt on Suryakumar Yadav
In the video, Salman Butt said: “I was reading everywhere that he came to international cricket when he was over 30. I just thought he’s lucky that he is Indian. If he was in Pakistan, he would’ve been a victim to the over-30 policy (there have been reports that the Ramiz Raja-led PCB didn’t allow players who are 30 or above to join the national team).”
“Those who are in the team, they are fine. Those who aren’t in the team, they don’t have a chance. Suryakumar broke into the team when he was 30. So, his case is different. The fitness, the batting reflexes, the batting maturity… it’s like he already knows what the bowlers are going to bowl,” Butt added.
Since his debut, Suryakumar Yadav has played 43 T20I innings and scored 1578 runs in an average of 46.41. But, his overall strike is 180.34. In this recent series, he scored 170 runs in three innings, averaging 85. Currently, he is the number one ranked batter in the shortest format of the game. Speaking about him, former India Cricketer, Ajay Jadeja said: "With AB de Villiers we saw, I mean he was one of the finest we have seen, no doubt. His (Suryakumar Yadav) consistency is a little bit more and I think what he adds with AB is that there's a little more power to his game.”
