India got off to a brilliant start in the first of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka by cruising to a seven-wicket victory. Two youngsters Ishan Kishan, and Prithvi Shaw played a fearless brand of cricket and solidified India’s strong bench strength yet another time. If Kishan scored a fifty on his ODI debut, Shaw too looked the part by scoring a brisk 43 off just 24 runs at the top.
India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh feels the duo’s blitz won’t go unnoticed and, it would be hard for India to not include these two in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The cricketer-turned-expert further opined that such X factor players only win matches for the team.
Head coach during the Sri Lanka tour Rahul Dravid recently spoke about giving chances to fringe players ahead of the global event. With both Shaw and Kishan getting off to a bright start, it will be testing times for the selectors, who will pick the squad for the T20 World Cup to be held in the UAE.
"You can judge a player on his performances. The way Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan have batted in an international game shows how capable they are and it will be difficult to ignore them for the T20 World Cup. If you want to win the World Cup you need players like these. They don't see who is bowling in the opposition. They just back their natural game," Harbhajan Singh told Sports Tak.
Harbhajan Singh feels a deserving youngster can replace a senior player in the T20 squad
"They should not be ignored based on their performances. Even if selectors have to replace a senior player, they should go ahead and do it. I also feel Suryakumar Yadav has sealed his place for the T20 World Cup. He not only plays an attacking brand of cricket but is also capable of preserving his wicket and scoring quickly at the same time," Harbhajan Singh concluded.
