On 3 December 2022, ATK Mohun Bagan locked horns with Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, in Bengaluru. Fans were hoping for an enthralling battle between these sides in this Indian Super League Clash. ATK Mohun Bagan came to this clash after a 1-0 win over Hyderabad.
On the other hand, Bengaluru FC were also coming off after a 2-0 win over Goa. So, both teams were looking to continue their winning momentum in the league. But, ATK Mohun Bagan came out victorious as they defeated Bengaluru FC 1-0. However, their Head Coach, Juan Ferrando was not happy with the performance despite the narrow win.
“I’m not completely happy.” - Juan Fernando, Head Coach of ATK Mohun Bagan
During the post-match press conference, Juan Ferrando said: “I’m not completely happy. I think we have the same problem when we play away - the first 10-20 minutes, the team is not ready, they are misplacing passes. In my point of view, we have a lot of space (to exploit) on the right and left (side) with Suresh (Wangjam), but when we decided to attack in these areas, the last pass or the last control of the ball was not good.”
“Then, the second when we are moving with the ball, we need to improve a lot in these details. In the second half, when Bengaluru FC decided to play towards our goal and with the second balls, honestly, we were like two teams. One team in defense and one in attack, it’s not good. In this case, it’s necessary to be closer, and more compact and in this case, the match was easy for us. It’s okay to accept that we had a very good team in front of us and the players were playing (away) in Bengaluru. I’m happy with the three points, but not the performance,” he added.
He also ensured that his team are working on different plans during this season. “For us, we were working with different plans during the last two-three years. This team used to play a different way but now, we tried to change this way. It’s not so easy because some players worked the last two-three years in the same way, and when you change, it’s a problem,” Juan Ferrando concluded.
