Kevin De Brunye is the linchpin of the Manchester City team; a vital cog in the system without whom the team will come to collapse. The Belgian continues to break assist records and top the charts every season.

Currently, the City player is on the brink of breaking one of the greatest midfielders of all time, Steven Gerrard's, assist record. The Liverpool legend made 92 assists in the Premier League which puts De Bruyine just two shy of the Aston Villa manager’s record.

Currently, De Bruyne is at 90 assists mark and needs just two to match and three to get past Gerrard’s tally. Given the sensational form that De Bruyne is and the plethora of attacking talent around him, it's just a matter of time, before the sensational Belgian gets past Gerrard’s tally.

Although breaking Gerrard’s record is impressive in itself, what makes De Bruyne’s assist numbers eye-watering is the number of games taken to reach that milestone.

Gerrard who now manages Aston Villa took 504 games to create 92 assists, which is more than double what the City midfielder has taken. De Bruyne has taken just 214 games to make 90 assists in the Premier League!

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager has issued an apology for Steven Gerrard ahead of the eventual surpassing by Kevin De Bruyne. Speaking to the press the City manager said, “I’m sorry for Steven Gerrard but his record will be beaten sooner or later,” Guardiola joked. “I'm pretty sure that Gerrard would be happy if someone beats his record if it’s a player like Kevin," hopes Guardiola.

Guardiola was all praise for Kevin De Bruyne and hailed his exceptional talent with the ball.

“He always gives a good example for other generations, for the kids of how to be a football player and behave. As a player he is exceptional, he can do whatever he wants and hopefully, he can maintain this level for a long time,” said Guardiola before drawing 1-1 against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa team.
