India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been hospitalized after being hit on the helmet while batting. Kishan was attempting a pull shot against pacer Lahiru Kumara, who bowled a pacy bouncer. Kishan missed the shot and the ball hit the helmet. India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Sri Lanka got off to a wonderful start with openers Pathum Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka adding 67 runs in 8.4 overs before the latter was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.
Lack of partnerships in the middle overs meant that the Lankan Lions were tottering at 103/4 after 15 overs. Impactful innings from Nissanka (75) and skipper Dasun Shanaka (47*) meant that the team amassed 80 runs in the last five overs which meant the visitors ended on 183/5.
Chasing the target of 184, the hosts lost the wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma at the end of the first over to Dushmantha Chameera. In the fourth over, Kishan was hit on the helmet when the scorecard read 24/1, with Shreyas Iyer on the other end.
Kumara, who was bowling that over, removed the helmet of the batter immediately and the Indian medical staff rushed to check on him. After the game, he was admitted to a hospital in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. The doctor, who is treating him said that the left-hander is under observation. The doctor added that Dinesh Chandimal from the visiting side has also been admitted after sustaining a thumb injury while fielding.
"I have been attached to the Indian team and I got information that an Indian player, who has sustained a head injury, has been brought here in the hospital. His CT scan was conducted and he has been under observation," said Dr Shubham.
"A Sri Lankan player has also been admitted in the hospital, after receiving a thumb injury in the second T20I. We are monitoring everything right now," he added.
Meanwhile, if recent reports are to be believed, Ishan is doing fine and there is nothing to be concerned about.
