Former India skipper Virat Kohli will play his 100th Test against Sri Lanka, starting from March 4 in Mohali. Kohli would have played his 100th game in the longest format against South Africa in January if not for his back spasms. In the second game of the three-match series, he was ruled out due to the said reason. KL Rahul led the team in his absence with the team leading the series 1-0.

India lost that game by seven wickets as they failed to defend the target of 243. The 33-year-old returned to lead the team in the must-win game but the team lost by as many wickets and lost the series by 1-2. Following the defeat, the right-hander left the captaincy. On the other hand, he hasn't been able to hit an international hundred since November 2019.

Meanwhile, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has backed the Delhi-born player to hit his 71st international hundred in Mohali. Gavaskar explained the feeling a player has while playing a 100th international game in any format. He further spoke about his 100th Test, where he got out on 48.

“Well, I can only say that it is going to be a sense of achievement. When you start playing cricket as a school kid, you want to play for India and hoping that you play for India for a certain while and suddenly you know, success comes to you and then you go on from year to year and then the 100th Test comes to you. It's a very special feeling. And look at what he has achieved in all format of the game, not just Test cricket, where he has been fabulous,” he said.

“Lots of batsman have played 100 Tests but did not get a hundred in that Test match. I clipped a half volley to square leg when I was batting on 48. Can you believe it, on 48? Simple catch that was,” he laughed.
