Come 4th March, India will play the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali. This Test match will mark Virat Kohli's 100th appearance in the longest format of that game. Only 12 Indians have ever been able to achieve this feat. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli can break another record in his historic Test. The 33-year old is just 38 runs shy of scoring 8000 runs in the longest format of the game. Once he goes past the landmark, he will become only the 6th Indian to do so. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman are the only other Indians to hold this milestone. If he scores these 38 runs in the first inning, he will surpass VVS Laxman to become the 5th fastest Indian to get to 8000 runs.

This will be the first time since 2014 that Virat will play under someone else as the captain in this format. He has seen a drought of runs since 2019. He last scored a century against Bangladesh in the Day-Night Test at Eden Gardens in 2019. In the last five home matches, he has only scored 208 runs at an average of 26. He has been dismissed for a duck thrice in eight innings.

The last time Sri Lanka toured India for a Test series was in 2017. In the three matches that they played, Virat scored 603 runs, including consecutive double centuries. This time, he would expect to have a similar performance. IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali will host the first match starting on the 4th of March.
