Pink Ball Test

India will take on England in their first-ever Day/Night pink-ball Test at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian team made their pink-ball debut against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in 2019. For the England cricket team, this will be their fourth Test match with the pink cherry. The English side has managed to win only one game while losing the other two against Australia and New Zealand. Team India has a mixed record of winning and losing one match each.

The Men in Blue made a winning start in their Day/Night Test outing, defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs in 2019. In their second pink ball encounter, India suffered a humiliating eight-wicket defeat against Australia in 2020. India’s 36-run defeat against Australia at Adelaide has been the lowest team total in Day/Night Test cricket. Talking about England, they sailed to an innings and 209-run victory over West Indies in 2017. But in their last two pink-ball Tests, the team lost in both occasions.

Virat Kohli scripted history as he became the first Indian batsman to score a century in a Day-Night Test

Virat Kohli has been the most flourishing Indian batsman in Day/Night Tests. The Indian team skipper scored a brilliant century against Bangladesh. He followed it up with a 180-ball 74 in the first innings against Australia in 2020. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav took a five-wicket haul each against Bangladesh in the pink-ball Test. Ishant ended that Test match with nine wickets, while Umesh scalped eight.

Australia has been the most successful team in Day/Night cricket. Out of 15 Day/Night Tests to date, the Kangaroos have a perfect record. They have played eight matches at home and grabbed victory in all of them. After Australia, it is the Pakistan team that has played the greatest number of Day/Night Test matches. They have played four matches but managed to win only one. England has registered the most significant margin of victory to date. The Lions have defeated West Indies at home by an innings and 209 runs. Australia has the lowest margin of victory against Pakistan by just 39 runs.
