The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced India's squad for the ODI series against West Indies later this month. Shikhar Dhawan has been named the captain of the 16-member squad for the three-match series. Ravindra Jadeja will serve as his deputy in the series.
Many notable players have been left out of the squad for this series. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, as well as the injured KL Rahul will miss out on the series.
Dhawan captained India in three One-Day Internationals last year on their tour of Sri Lanka, while other senior players were engaged with the Test team in England. He'll have Ruturaj Gaikwad as a probable opening partner, as he did in that series. India also included Shubman Gill in the ODI squad for the first time since the 2020 tour of Australia.
Sanju Samson replaces Pant as the second wicketkeeper in the team, while bowler Arshdeep Singh, who was chosen for the ODIs against England, retains his position. The spinners in the team are Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, and Deepak Hooda.
The ODI matches of India's tour of the West Indies and the United States begins on July 22 in Trinidad. They will next play five Twenty20 Internationals against the two-time world champions in Trinidad, St Kitts, and Lauderhill (Florida).
