After clinching victory in the three-match T20I series by 2-1, the second-string side of India is going against South Africa in the first ODI. Indian T20I players have been given a rest so as to keep them fit for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup in Australia.

The ODI match is also a chance for players to claim a spot in the first team with a good performance. Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shikhar Dhawan, and many others would be looking to come up with such a performance that gets them in selectors' visions.

Deepak Chahar is also one such player who would be looking to break into the first team and become a regular like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Many cricket fans were hoping that the bowling all-rounder would be given a chance to showcase his skills in the first ODI match against South Africa. All of whom however were given a shock when the Indian team announced the playing XI for the first match at Lucknow. Unexpectedly, Chahar was missing from the playing XI.

Ever since the squad announcement was made, fans on social media started to question the exclusion of Chahar from the playing XI against South Africa. Chahar who has played 24 ODI matches for India has done incredibly well whenever he has got the chance. In those 24 matches, for example, the 30-year-old took 29 wickets with a best of 6/7!

Not just with the bowl, but Chahar also helps the team with the bat. In the last T20I match, for example, he made 31 off just 17 deliveries and kept the fight alive for a long. Given his recent performances, many on Twitter questioned his exclusion and the inclusion of Avesh Khan and Mohammed Siraj in his place.

Some however also think that Deepak Chahar could be the replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the 20-20 World Cup and hence he is being rested.

Here's how Twitter reacted to Deepak Chahar's exclusion from India vs South Africa's first ODI match:Β
