India won the fourth and final Test against England to seal the Test series 3-1. The Indian cricket team have now qualified for the final of the World Test Championship. The side will face New Zealand in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship in June. This has turned out to be India’s 13th consecutive series win in the game's purest format.
England will be ruing that they missed a chance to defeat India at home after winning the first Test. With this series win, the Indian cricket team has also made it to the top of the ICC Test rankings, surpassing New Zealand. The Black Caps had 118 points after their outstanding home season. India now has 122 points after a great series win.
The four-match Test series wasn’t easy for the men in blue as they lost the first Test in Chennai. However, they bounced back brilliantly, winning the second Test, and then it was a one-way traffic. England batsmen could not counter the spin bowling and crumbled almost every time they batted after the first Test.
India and England will now face-off in the five-match T20I series
England have dropped to the fourth position after losing three consecutive Test matches. They now have 105 points, while their arch-rivals Australia are third with 113 points. There is a massive gap between the top four and the bottom six. Pakistan (90), South Africa (89), Sri Lanka (83), and West Indies (80) are next in the ICC Test rankings.
India defeated England by an innings and 25 runs in the fourth Test to claim the series 3-1. Spin pair Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel picked up five-wickets each to dismantle the visitors for just 135 runs in the second innings. Earlier, Rishabh Pant smashed his maiden Test hundred on Indian soil (101) while Washington Sundar was unlucky as he missed it by four runs. The youngster was unbeaten on 96 as India were all-out for 365.
The two sides will next face-off in the five-match T20I series starting March 12. All the matches are going to take place in Ahmedabad. England’s tour will end with three One-Day Internationals, followed by the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
