On 4 December 2022, team India will begin their three-match ODI series in Bangladesh. After the 20-20 World Cup, all senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took a rest from the whole New Zealand tour. However, in this series, all those players will be back in action for the Men in Blue.
Keeping the 2023 World Cup in mind, this series is going to be a crucial one for Rohit Sharma and his men. However, ahead of the series, Bangladesh dealt with major injury setbacks as Tamim Iqbal and Taskin Ahmed are going to miss the first ODI. While Mohammed Shami also got ruled out of injury ahead of the series opener. Now, the former Indian cricketer, Wasim Jaffar came up with a suggestion for team India.
“India need to stick with 12-13 players going into ODI World Cup” - Wasim Jaffar
While speaking to EspnCricinfo, Wasim Jaffar said that team India need to stick with certain players going into the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023. So many changes in the team have been an issue in recent times. Jaffar said: “We have chopped in change too much. Because, I have said, we have a large talent pool. You need to give everybody a chance after their good performances in the Indian T20 League.”
Jaffar said that those players need to go back to the first class and perform there consistently for two-three years. Then, they should get a chance. He also added that India need to narrow it down to 14-16 players and continue with that squad for the next 20 to 25 ODIs.
However, going into the 2023 World Cup, India need to stick with 12-13 players. However, he also shared his preferred playing XI in the first ODI. Senior players made the cut but Shreyas Iyer missed his place in the playing XI. Shami also got a place but as per recent developments, he will miss the whole series.
Wasim Jaffar’s preferred playing XI: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper), KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.
