VVS Laxman reckoned that India needs to play their best possible combination to win the ongoing T20I series against England. Indian team management rested in-form batsman Rohit Sharma in the opening T20I game against England. The hosts also went in with a three-pronged spin unit on a surface that was likely to assist the pacers.

During a conversation on Star Sports, Parthiv Patel questioned VVS Laxman if the Indian team played three spinners because they were trying that combination or the side failed to understand the wicket. VVS Laxman stated that resting Rohit Sharma and playing Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul as the two openers is not a wrong decision. However, the hosts will have to put their best foot forward to get the better of the Eoin Morgan-led side.

Eoin Morgan’s white-ball team is very different from Joe Root’s Test team: VVS Laxman

Indian batting unit struggled to score freely before Shreyas Iyer showed the way with a brilliant 67-run knock. His outstanding performance with the bat took the hosts to 124 for seven at the Narendra Modi stadium. India was struggling at 20/3, but Shreyas Iyer sailed them out to reach a modest 124 by scoring 67 runs off 48 balls including eight boundaries and a six. England chased the target comfortably in 15.3 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series.

Recently retired batsman Parthiv Patel was also surprised with the decision of the Indian team to field in three spinners knowing that the black soil wicket will assist seamers. India roped in Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Axar Patel as their three spinners. The former wicketkeeper-batsman further added that the hosts could have opted to go down the spin-heavy route if they had two wrist-spinners, which was not the case in the Ahmedabad encounter.

India’s bowling combination was almost irrelevant in the end as they posted a below-par score. VVS Laxman also highlighted that Eoin Morgan’s white-ball team is very different from Joe Root’s Test team. The 46-year-old stated that England’s T20 team, which is the top ICC ranked side, is highly skilled and experienced. Hence, Laxman opines that India should play its best eleven if they want to win the T20 series. Eoin Morgan and Co. will play the second match against India at the same venue on March 14.
