India whitewashed West Indies in the ODI series with a 119-run defeat (DLS method) in the third match. Despite a rain delay, the men in blue delivered an outstanding all-rounded effort. West Indies, on the other hand, were sluggish and unable to have an effect on the game. India had a comfortable win in the end.
India decided to bat first after winning the toss at the Queen's Park Oval. The men in blue made a cautious start with the bat. Shikhar Dhawan (58) and Shubman Gill (58) took their time settling in, and the bowlers were unable to put any pressure on them. In their 113-run partnership, each scored a half-century. The captain's wicket fell just before the game was interrupted due to rain.
The game was reduced to 40 overs per side after the resumption, and Gill and Shreyas Iyer accelerated. The two were looking for quick runs, which they were able to do with consistent boundaries. With Iyer's (44) wicket in the 33rd over, the pair had put up an 86-run partnership. Before the second rain delay, the hosts took one more wicket of Suryakumar Yadav (eight). India did not bat again, leaving Gill stuck on 98 runs. In 36 overs, the visitors scored 225 runs.
When chasing a target of 257 (DLS method) in 36 overs, the Nicholas Pooran-led team got off to a poor start. Mohammed Siraj took two wickets in the second over alone. This established the tone for India brilliantly. The Windies were unable to form effective partnerships and continued to lose wickets.
The Indian bowlers, on the other hand, were on top of their game and produced excellent results. In 26 overs, they bowled out the West Indies batting order for 136 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal was the standout bowler, taking four wickets. Shardul Thakur and Siraj each claimed two wickets, with Prasidh Krishna and Axar Patel taking one apiece. Only Pooran and Brandon King could put some runs on the board for the West Indies, each scoring 42 runs.
