Australia limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch has been in sensational form against India. But it was surprising to see the destructive right-handed batsman not coming out for the toss for the second T20I. Australia's wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade replaced him for the 2nd match. Aaron Finch had picked up a hip injury during the first T20 International.

He also looked a bit uncomfortable during his 26-ball 35 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. After the match, Finch indicated that he did not have much of an idea about the extent of his injury. The 34-year-old underwent scans after the match, and the medical team did not allow him to take the field on Sunday.

Matthew Wade excels in the absence of Aaron Finch

Matthew Wade received a great opportunity to lead the Australian team against India in Sydney. The southpaw did not disappoint his side as he hit a 25-ball fifty.

The wicket-keeper batsman opened the innings and attacked the Indian bowlers. He had a 47-run opening stand with D'Arcy Short. The 32-year-old soon smashed his second T20I fifty and looked set for an imposing total.

Regrettably, the latter lost his wicket on 58 because of a hefty confusion in the middle. Wade nicked a ball from Washington Sundar straight to Indian captain Virat Kohli. Shockingly, Virat Kohli could not execute the simple catch.

However, Wade thought that his innings was over and stood in the middle of the crease. This allowed Kohli and Co. an opportunity to throw the ball to the striker's end soon after the catch was dropped.

KL Rahul did his part by dislodging the bails to run out Matthew Wade. However, Aaron Finch would be overwhelmed with Wade's performance on captaincy debut.

Aaron Finch became Australia's seventh T20I captain in the year 2014. The top-order batsman has led the side in the 38 T20Is to date. He has registered 19 victories and 17 losses under his captaincy. The Australian has had a praiseworthy record as a T20I skipper.

Finch is likely to lead the Melbourne Renegades in the upcoming 10th season of the Big Bash League. Melbourne Renegades will play their first match of the season against Perth Scorchers on December 12 in Hobart.
