India swing bowler Mukesh Kumar hasn't had the best of Test matches in his first game at home. After making a decent start to his career in the Caribbean Islands, he did well in the New Year's Test in South Africa. However, after replacing Mohammed Siraj in the playing XI, Kumar hasn't been able to pick a single wicket so far.
On top of that, he has conceded runs in his limited bowling which is why the team hasn't asked him to bowl much. Meanwhile, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has backed Kumar and said that the latter has just started to play at the highest level and he will learn from the experience. Notably, the Bihar player is yet to bowl on the ongoing fourth and possibly the final day of the game.
"That can happen to anyone (didn't have a good day). He has just started to play international cricket. He has started out on Test cricket. We have a lot of confidence in him. This is a long series. We have to rotate players. That is the mindset, I think, obviously, you have to learn by making mistakes. You get better by making mistakes," Bumrah said in the post-match press conference.
Focus on what we can do better: Jasprit Bumrah for Mukesh Kumar
The Gujarat player added that everybody makes mistakes in their playing career. "I don't look at it as a bad day. Everybody makes mistakes. It's a learning day. Even I make mistakes. That is the conversation we will have. 'Okay, that day has passed; focus on what we can do better. Try and give your best'." Talking about the game, home team has asked England to chase 399 runs. At the time of writing, the Three Lions have scored 154/4, and looks like the game will have a result either way on Day Four only
