India vs. Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours match has been moved to the Reserve Day after rain interrupted the high-octane clash on the originally scheduled date - Sunday, September 10. Only 24.1 overs were possible on 'Day 1' after Pakistan captain Babar Azam sent India to bat first at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. As per the tournament rule, the match will resume at the same position at 3 p.m. IST on the Reserve Day on Monday.
Opting to bowl first, Pakistan were expected to give the Indian openers a tough time like in their previous encounter, but this time Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill baffled their opponent's pace attack with their devastating play. The duo completed a 100-run partnership in just 13.2 overs and went on to add 21 more runs before Shadab Khan dismissed the Indian skipper. In the very next over, pace sensation Shaheen Afridi got rid of Gill as well, but the pair did maximum damage in the brief time.
Pakistan received huge advances as their opponent now had to build a new partnership. As Virat Kohli (8* off 16) and KL Rahul (17* off 28) began to put together a sensible partnership, the much-predicted rain finally arrived, halting play for the entire day with the scoreboard reading 147/2 in 241 overs. The umpires had multiple inspections and the ground staff did their best to dry the wet patch by applying plenty of sawdust and bringing out a makeshift fan - which is actually three fans attached to what looks like a wheelbarrow. However, the rain had the final say and the much-awaited clash was shifted to a controversial reserve day.
What weather did Colombo wake up to on Monday morning?
There was much talk of allotting a reserve day exclusively for the IND-PAK match, but the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was aware of the potential disruption due to rain. However, the weather is not so promising on Monday either. But on a more satisfying note, after overnight rains, Colombo woke up to clear skies and is looking good at the moment.
Former Pakistan cricketer dropped an important update on the Colombo weather on his social media platform on Monday morning: "It rained on and off overnight. But now it is clear. Clouds not clear (overcast condition). You can see the clouds. It's breezy, looks fine right now but let's see what happens when the game begins."
