Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I series between India and South Africa. He has suffered a back injury and is currently under treatment. Bumrah is confirmed to miss out on the remainder of the series and the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Mohammed Siraj has now been called up for the remainder of the T20I series against the Proteas as Bumrah's replacement. "The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Mohd. Siraj as replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa. Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team," read a statement from BCCI.
In the meantime, Bumrah's injury is a major setback for Rohit Sharma and his team, whose success was dependent on the 28-year-old pace spearhead. Now, the situation appears to be completely different, and fans are focusing on who might be the best possible replacement for the injured Bumrah.
It has been understood that the star pacer will be out of the Indian team for at least six months. "Bumrah is not going to play the T20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months," a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by News 18.
As for Siraj, the right-armer last played a T20I for India against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala in February. He has been out of the picture since then. Siraj was only selected for ODIs in the West Indies and England in recent months. He also played a three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe, cementing his status as an ODI specialist in the eyes of Indian fans.
