BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is optimistic that India is going to host the best-ever T20 World Cup later this year. Despite the rise in the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian cricket administrative body has taken a lot of efforts to host IPL 2021 with precautions. There has been a sudden rise in covid-19 cases in the last few weeks, due to which some Indian states have enforced partial lockdowns and curfews. BCCI will be engrossed in hosting IPL 2021 matches in the month of April and May 2021. Post that, they will also host the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in October and November. Considering overseas teams will also arrive in India for the mega event, BCCI will have to ensure players and staff members' safety during the tournament.
The year's start witnessed the officials organising the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, they had to cancel the Ranji Trophy campaign. The Covid situation in India currently remains at its worst, with many new cases being recorded every day. The current crisis has forced the cricketers to live in bio-bubbles for the last six months. Thanking the players for their grit and sacrifices, Ganguly praised them for producing such high-quality cricket despite the hurdles.

Ganguly has also sent an invitation to all presidents and secretaries of the state cricket associations to attend the IPL 2021 opening match. The season's first match is between RCB and MI in Chennai.
