On 10 December 2022, the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and India got finished. However, the series went in favor of the Bangla Tigers as they won the series 2-1. However, Shikhar Dhawan had a forgettable series with the bat. In three matches, Dhawan scored just 18 runs.

Even, in the last ODI series in New Zealand, Dhawan scored only 103 runs in three matches. On the other hand, in the last match against Bangladesh, Ishan Kishan scored a double hundred while opening the innings. So, now, reports have come out that Shikhar Dhawan’s future in ODIs might be in danger before the 2023 World Cup.

"A call on Shikhar's future will only be taken after a new selection committee is appointed.” - Senior source of the Indian Cricket Board about Shikhar Dhawan

While talking to PTI, a senior source of the Indian Cricket Board said that once the new selection committee will be announced, they will take a call on the future of Dhawan’s ODI career. He said: "A call on Shikhar's future will only be taken after a new selection committee is appointed. But head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma's views can't be ignored."

Reports also suggested that the Board will have a meeting with Dravid & Laxman for the roadmap of the Indian team. Even, team India can have separate squads for the T20 & ODI in the home season. Speaking about Shikhar Dhawan’s ODI career, he has played 167 matches for the Men in Blue. In those matches, he has scored 6793 runs, at an average of 44.11. In the last six ODIs, he managed to cross the 30-run mark only once.

Speaking about team India, they suffered two consecutive ODI series losses after the conclusion of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. First, they lost against the Kiwis by 1-0, and then, they lost against the Bangla Tigers by 2-1. So ahead of the 2023 World Cup, these series can be a wake-up call for Rohit Sharma and his boys in the 50-over format.
