The first edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC) League will start on 13 July 2023. The opening match will take place at the newly-constructed Major League Cricket venue, Grand Prairie Stadium, in Grand Prairie, TX. Meanwhile, a total of 18 matches will be played in this opening season. But, the final will happen on 30 July 2023.
Six teams from major metropolitan areas will represent Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Seattle, and New York City. However, the Indian T20 League’s Kolkata franchise group is the founding investor in MLC. They are working closely with the League on various aspects related to the launch of the event.

According to recent reports by Cricbuzz, many Indian T20 League franchises have been showing interest to buy teams in this MLC League. Therefore, Indian T20 League franchises are looking to expand their emperor to the American continent. In early 2023, the owners of those franchises will be announced followed by the players' draft in March.
Meanwhile, in April 2022, the Kolkata franchise announced that they will work with the MLC League in a partnership to build a world-class cricket venue in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area in the USA. However, it has been a great option for the league to get collaborated with a franchise like Kolkata. Even, this franchise can bring its significant experience in global T20 cricket to MLC.
In an official statement, Sharukh Khan of the Kolkata franchise expressed his views regarding their association with MLC. He said: “Our investment in MLC in America is based on our belief in the exciting future of cricket in the USA and is well aligned to our strategy of establishing Knight Riders as a global brand in T20 cricket. The plan to build a world-class cricket stadium in the greater Los Angeles area is exciting for us and MLC. This will no doubt have a transformational impact on one of the world’s most iconic metropolitan areas.”
