The Indian Premier League (IPL) has completed 15 years since its inception in 2008. It is only a few games away from completing 1000 games in its history. The 16th season of the tournament is in progress and we have watched 25 games played. The 42nd game of the tournament between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians will be the 1000th IPL game that will be played in Mumbai.
Indian Cricket Board is looking to host a grand ceremony before the game. An event management company is approached by the IPL Governing Council. Notably, the 500th game of the league also involved the Royals but they played against Delhi Daredevils (Now Capitals) in the 2015 season. Eight years later, the Jaipur-based will be part of history once again.
Before the ongoing season started, the league held an opening ceremony for the first time after 2018. In 2019, the Indian Board and the tournament's governing council decided to pay tributes to the Pulwama martyrs. The seasons 2020,2021, and 2022 were played under the cloud of COVID-19 which is why the opening ceremony couldn't be organized.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how the 1000th IPL game turns out.
