Indian Men’s Table Tennis Team win the fifth Gold for the country in CWG 2022

The Indian men’s table Tennis team beat Singapore in the finals of the Commonwealth Games 2022 and won the fifth Gold medal for the nation.

The Indian men’s table Tennis team beat Singapore in the finals of the Commonwealth Games 2022 as they successfully defended their title and clinched the Gold medal at the event.

In the final, India defeated Singapore by 3-1. For India, Harmeet Desai and G Sathiyan gave India a great start by registering a win in the doubles match. However, Chew Zhe Yu Clarence won the next game to level at 1-1. But G Sathiyan and Harmeet Desai ensured India’s gold by winning their respective matches.

India have won the gold medal for the second successive time in the team event of men’s table tennis as they also won the coveted medal in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The Indian team had defeated Nigeria 3-0 in the final of 2018 to finish first on the podium. Team India had clinched eight medals in Table Tennis in the last edition of the Games and the team will look to give another spectacular performance this year as well.

This was India’s second Gold medal of the day as the Indian women’s fours lawn bowls team created history earlier in the day by winning the finals after beating South Africa by 17-10. This was India’s first medal in the history of the sport.

India have so far won 12 medals in the Commonwealth Games 2022, which include five gold, four silver, and three bronze medals. Weightlifting has been the most successful event for India so far as it has fetched the nation seven medals. At the same time, India have won two medals in Judo.

India opened their account in the medals tally on the second Day of the mega event as Sanket Mahadev Sargar clinched a silver in weightlifting. The first Gold medal was won by Mirabai Chanu on the same day in the women’s 49kg weightlifting category. While the first bronze was won by Gururaja Poojary.

The other two Gold medals have been won by Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli in Men’s 67kg and 73kg weightlifting categories respectively.
