Chennai's star batter Ambati Rayudu announced that the Indian T20 League 2022 will be his last season in the tournament. He took to Twitter to announce the same. The batter thanked Mumbai and Chennai, the teams he represented in the competition as well. However, he deleted the tweets within minutes.
Notably, this is not the first time that he has revoked his retirement announcement from the game. He had previously returned from international retirement following his exclusion from the 2019 World Cup team.
"I am happy to announce that this will be my last ipl. I have had a wonderful time playing it and being a part of 2 great teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank Mumbai Indians and Csk for the wonderful journey," he wrote in the tweet before deleting it.

Following this announcement, his former teammate Irfan Pathan wished him luck, unaware of the fact that Rayudu had reversed his decision. "Played cricket with you since our u-19 days. Always admire your batting and the energy you give on the field. Wish you well for your journey ahead brother. You have done very well and should be proud of your achievement @RayuduAmbati," he wrote.
Before entering the Indian T20 League, he was one of the cricketers who joined the rebel Indian Cricket League in 2007, making him ineligible to compete in the cash-rich league. He was later permitted to play in the league, and made his debut for Mumbai in 2010. Throughout his tournament career, he scored 4,187 runs at an average of 30. This includes 22 fifties.
In the meantime, the 35-year old's team in the Indian T20 League 2022, Chennai, haven't done well. They are currently placed ninth in the points table with four wins in 12 games. They became the second team after Mumbai to be knocked out of the race to the playoffs. The men in yellow have two games left in the season.
