Gujarat, in their debut season, lifted the Indian T20 League 2022 title. They beat Rajasthan by seven wickets, in front of their home crowd. Gujarat were impressive with the ball, and restricted Rajasthan to a small total on a good batting surface. After losing a few early wickets, the league debutants batted brilliantly to win the match.
At the Narendra Modi Stadium, Rajasthan won the toss and decided to bat first. They got off to a good start, thanks to the efforts of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Within the first four overs, the pair scored 31 runs. However, Yash Dayal ended the partnership with Jaiswal's wicket (22). Meanwhile, Buttler continued to perform admirably. Rajasthan then lost their captain Sanju Samson (14) in the ninth over, for a total of 60.
The inaugural champions slowed down drastically after that as they kept losing wickets regularly. Devdutt Padikkal (two), Buttler (39), and Shimron Hetmyer (11) all departed within 15 overs. In the middle overs, Hardik Pandya and Sai Kishore bowled superb spells. Pandya claimed three wickets in four overs, while Kishore took two in two overs. Rajasthan finished with 130 runs on the board, and lost nine wickets in the process.
Hardik Pandya's side did not have the ideal start while chasing the target. Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult combined for an outstanding first spell. Rajasthan allowed only 31 runs in the powerplay, and got two wickets. Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill pulled the team back into the game by playing smartly and scoring 63 runs in partnership. However, Yuzvendra Chahal ended the partnership in the 14th over by dismissing Pandya (34) for a team score of 86.
Gujarat's innings then went smoothly as David Miller entered the game. He and Gill both played beautiful knocks to keep the boundaries flowing. They scored 47 runs, and Shubman Gill capped off the season with a six on the first ball of the 19th over. Miller hit 32 runs in 19 balls, while Gill hit 45 runs in 43 balls. With the win, they denied Rajasthan their second title in the Indian T20 League.
