The Indian T20 League has attracted a large audience year after year. With the addition of two new teams in the 15th edition, it was expected that the tournament would see a spike in the television ratings. However, that has not been the case. The tournament has seen a huge dip in its rating in the first week of the 2022 season.
As per the recent reports, the tournament has seen a dip of close to almost 33 percent. As per Inside Sport, the first eight games of the tournament saw a rating of 2.52 as compared to last season's 3.75. The first week of 2020 saw a rating of 3.85.
Aside from the significant loss in TV ratings, the total reach of the event has suffered significantly, falling by about 14 per cent compared to the previous year. Last year, 267.7 million people watched the match on television during the first week, but by 2022, this amount has fallen to 229.06 million.
One major reason for the drop could be that during the previous two seasons, people were mostly stuck at home owing to the covid-19 pandemic. This year, however, the regulations have been relaxed, which may have caused the users to watch the match on OTT platforms.
The fans gave their opinions on the decline of the television ratings. Many suggested that this could be because the tournament has gotten boring. Some also believed that Chennai and Mumbai, the two flagship teams, have failed this season, causing a huge fall in the ratings.
Nevertheless, the tournament is far from over, and there are some important fixtures coming our way. The future matches of the season may get back the tournament in full flow.
Here are some of the reactions behind the fall in the television ratings.

Group format, star sports commentery, and no hype ,wrost ad,this is the main reason for viewership fall. When ipl on Sony fan watching interesteingly and promo make hype in ipl season .

Till 2021, ipl is all about 8 different teams. But pushing to 10 teams is like boring , especially fans can't wait to see their favourite team for waiting for long days gap for every match. Especially CSK , RCB , SRH ,MI & DC having almost 5+ days gap for every match.
