It's time for the El Clásico of the Indian T20 League 2022 as Mumbai take on Chennai in the tournament's 33rd encounter. The game is scheduled to take place on April 21st at the DY Patil Stadium. The tournament's two most successful teams have had a disastrous season so far. Having played six games, Chennai have only won one match. They are presently placed ninth in the standings. Mumbai, on the other hand, have lost all six of its games and currently sits at the bottom of the table.

Team Updates

Mumbai

Mumbai's top-order has been a major cause of worry this season. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have struggled this season. Sharma has 114 runs while Kishan has 191 in the 2022 edition. The team will benefit greatly from the two stepping up. They also lack quality in the bowling department. Jasprit Bumrah, their most important bowler, has only taken four wickets in the six matches this season. He, too, will have to bowl a lot better in the upcoming matches.

Their middle-order batters, however, have been superb for them. Youngsters like Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis have made the most of their time in the middle, and Suryakumar has been excellent with the bat this season. Despite not having found their winning combination yet, Mumbai will not look to make changes to their playing XI from the last match.

Players to watch out for

Suryakumar Yadav- Suryakumar Yadav has done an outstanding job this season. He may not have led the team to a victory, but he has been the most consistent batter for the five-time champions. Yadav has scored 200 runs for Mumbai in four appearances. This season, he has a strike rate of nearly 154.

Murugan Ashwin- Murugan Ashwin has been one of Mumbai's best bowlers this season. So far, he has taken six wickets and has been relatively economical as well. He has conceded 7.8 runs per over.

Probable Playing XI

Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Fabian Allen, Jaydev Unadkat, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills

Chennai

Chennai have struggled in their fast bowling department without Deepak Chahar, and this has been their main concern this season. They do not have a frontline fast bowler, and the pressure has fallen on the likes of Mukesh Choudhary and Dwayne Bravo. The Windies legend has been their most successful bowler this season, with 10 wickets to his name. Spinners Maheesh Theekshana and Ravindra Jadeja also have started to chip in with the ball.

Batters of the men in yellow have been a lot better. Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube have been in great form, and Ruturaj Gaikwad regained his lost form with a half-century in the last match. However, some of their batters still need to do a lot better. Jadeja and Moeen Ali haven't done well with the bat this season.

Players to watch out for

Ruturaj Gaikwad- Ruturaj Gaikwad, the orange cap winner of the 2021 edition, had been struggling with his form in the initial matches. However, things seemingly changed after he scored 73 runs in 48 balls against Gujarat in the previous match.

Maheesh Theekshana- Maheesh Theekshana has been a great find for Chennai this season. He has played three games this season and has taken six wickets already. The conditions at this venue will suit him well and thus, he will look to be productive.

Probable Playing XI

Robin Uthappa, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Dwayne Bravo, Chris Jordan, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary

Pitch Report

The Wicket at DY Patil Stadium has slowed as the games have progressed. Spinners will come into action at this venue and take some wickets. However, batters wouldn't mind playing at this wicket either. The team winning the toss will want to bowl first here.
