Rajasthan defeated Delhi by 15 runs to win their fifth game of the Indian T20 League. Winning the toss, Delhi decided to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium. Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal took their time to settle early on but exploded as soon as they were comfortable. They scored 44 runs in the powerplay. The duo continued to bat well and reached their half-centuries. They added 155 runs in the partnership, recording the highest opening partnership for Rajasthan ever.
Khaleel Ahmed final trapped Padikkal (54) in the 16th over of the game. However, Buttler continued on and reached his hundred in the same over, is third hundred of the season. Mustafizur Rahman ultimately got him on the last ball of the 19th over. Buttler hit nine boundaries and nine sixes in his innings of 116 runs off 65 balls. Sanju Samson then delivered the ideal cameo, scoring 46 runs in 19 balls to lead the side to their highest total of the season. The men in pink scored 222 runs in their 20 overs.
David Warner and Prithvi Shaw needed a quick start to chase the mammoth of a total, which they did to some extent. The added 43 runs in the partnership before Warner (28) fell to Prasidh Krishna in the fifth over. Sarfaraz Khan (1) also departed soon as he fell to Ravichandran Ashwin in the next over. Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw stitched a good partnership but both lost their wickets at wrong time. In the 10th over, Ashwin dismissed Shaw (37) while Krishna dismissed Pant (44) in the 12th over.
Another wicket fell soon as Yuzvendra Chahal struck Axar Patel in the 13th over. Rajasthan reached 127 runs and lost half of the side in 13 overs. Shardul Thakur was promoted up the order ahead of Rovman Powell. However, he couldn't do much. Yadav (37) fought bravely but the match was heading towards a comfortable win for Rajasthan. With 36 needed of two overs, Krishna bowled a wicket-maiden penultimate over to kill any hopes of a miracle.
Rovman Powell, however, spooked life in the chase as he hit three sixes in the first three balls. However, the momentum was broken due to a no-ball controversy. Powell could not hit any more boundaries and was dismissed on the final ball of the match. Meanwhile, the fans had some great reactions to the game.
