Lucknow beat Mumbai by 36 runs to win the 37th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. Mumbai won the toss and decided to bowl first in their first game at Wankhede Stadium this season. Batting first, Lucknow got off to a slow start, but KL Rahul looked in good touch. Jasprit Bumrah got the wicket of Quinton de Kock (10) in the fourth over. Lucknow managed 32 runs in the powerplay. After a slow start, Rahul then produced a brilliant innings.

Manish Pandey joined him in the middle and nudged around for a while. Meanwhile, the skipper was playing a smart game and reached his half century of 37 balls in the 11th over.. Pandey (22) finally fell to Kieron Pollard in the 12th over. The men in turquoise then lost two more wickets in quick succession. Marcus Stoinis (0) fell to Daniel Sams in the 13th over and Krunal Pandya (one) lost his wicket to Pollard in the 14th over. Deepak Hooda (10) also departed soon in the 16th over. Lucknow were reduced to 121/5 in 15.3 overs.

KL Rahul, on the other end, continued playing well. He reached his second century of the season in the final over with a six. Rahul's ton helped Lucknow post 168-6 in 20 overs. KL Rahul stayed not out on 103 runs in 62 balls, with 12 boundaries and four sixes in the game.

In the pursuit, Mumbai got off to a decent start and added 43 runs in the powerplay. Post that, it all went downhill for them. Ishan Kishan (eight) lost his wicket to Ravi Bishnoi in the eighth over. A wide ball hit the inner edge of his bat and went in Holder's grasp at first slip after hitting the wicket-keeper's shoes.

Mumbai lost three more wickets in a short time. In the ninth over, Mohsin Khan dismissed Dewald Brevis (three), in the tenth over, Pandya dismissed Sharma (39), and in the 12th over, Ayush Badoni dismissed Suryakumar Yadav (seven). They were reduced to 67 for four at this point. Kieron Pollard and Tilak Varma needed a big partnership to take the team home. They added 57 runs in their partnership before Varma (38) fell to Holder in the 18th over.

With 44 runs needed in two overs, Dushmantha Chameera bowled the important 19th over. He kept things in control and conceded just five runs in the over. Pandya bowled the final over and took the wicket of Pollard (19) on the first ball. On the third ball, Jaydev Unadkat was run out, while Daniel Sams lost his wicket on the next ball. Lucknow registered their fifth game of the season while Mumbai lost their eighth straight game.
