Rajasthan defeated Bangalore by 29 runs in the 39th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 to climb to the top of the points table. The men in pink were exceptional in the second half of the game, with Kuldeep Sen, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Prasidh Krishna bowling splendid spells, helping Rajasthan defend 144. Bangalore, on the other hand, were once again terrible with the bat.
Winning the toss, Faf du Plessis decided to bowl first at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Rajasthan lost a few early wickets to go on the backfoot. In the second over of the game, Mohammed Siraj dismissed Devdutt Padikkal (seven). Rajasthan then sent in Ashwin to bat at number three and he hit a few clean strokes. He scored 17 runs before Siraj got his second wicket in the fourth over. The in-form Jos Buttler (eight) also was sent back by Josh Hazlewood in the fifth over, leaving Rajasthan in trouble at 33-3.
Daryl Mitchell and Sanju Samson were at the crease at this point. The two added 35 runs before Samson (27) was dismissed in the 10th over. Rajasthan's innings had no momentum and the team looked like ending below a par score, especially after being 102-6 in 16th over. However, Riyan Parag played a blinder and helped his team to 144-8. He scored 56 in 31 balls, including 3 fours and four sixes.
In the following innings, Virat Kohli opened with Faf du Plessis. However, he couldn't make an impact and was dismissed for nine in the second over by Prasidh Krishna. The men in red did not lose any more wickets in the powerplay and finished with a total of 37. However, Rajasthan took two wickets in the seventh over. Kuldeep Sen took the wickets of Du Plessis (23) and Glenn Maxwell (0) in the over, leaving Bangalore reeling at 37-3.
The team could not recover from this twin strikes and kept on losing wickets at regular interval. Bangalore had high hopes from the man in form, Dinesh Karthik. But his unfortunate run out in the 13th over, at a team score of 72-5 closed all doors of comeback for Bangalore, who went on to lose the match by 29 runs.
