Gujarat beat Bangalore by six wickets to maintain their top spot on the points table of the Indian T20 League 2022 on Saturday. Despite valuable half-centuries by Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, RCB lost the game in the end. The heroics of Dawid Miller and Rahul Tewatia helped Gujarat win the match and, thereby take 8th win this season. Bangalore, on the other hand, have now lost their third match in a row.
Bangalore decided to bat first in the day game at the Brabourne Stadium. After losing an early wicket in Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar stabilized the innings for the Men in Red. Virat carefully approached his innings, and Patidar took the pressure off him with some quick runs. Both scored half-centuries and added 99 runs in the partnership. Pradeep Sangwan, eventually, got the breakthrough with Patidar's (52) wicket in the 15th over. Virat Kohli (58) also departed soon, as Mohammad Shami got him out in the 17th over.
Bangalore lost a few wickets in the death overs but cameos from Glenn Maxwell (33) and Mahipal Lomror (16) got them to a score of 170 runs in the first innings. Sangwan, playing his first game of the tournament since 2018, took two wickets in the game. Shami, Alzari Joseph, Rashid Khan, and Lockie Ferguson all grabbed a wicket each.
In pursuit of the target, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill gave the Gujarat team the perfect start. They started attacking right away and did not lose a wicket in the powerplay. They added 46 runs in the first six overs. However, Saha (29), could not hold on for long as he lost his wicket to Wanindu Hasaranga in the eighth over. The Men in Blue lost a few wickets in quick succession in the middle overs.
Shubman Gill (31), Hardik Pandya (three), and Sai Sudarshan (20) failed to convert the start into big score as Gujarat were at 95 for 4 after 13 overs. However, what followed was a sensatinonal show from Rahul Tewatia and David Miller.
The two southpaws stitched a brilliant partnership and played shots all across the park. The two added 79 runs for the fifth wicket partnership to seal the deal for Gujarat. Tewatia hit the winning four in the final over and finished undefeated on 43 in 25 balls. Miller, on the other hand, scored 39 runs in 24 balls.
